The Association was founded in 1954 by a group of Turks and Americans after Turkey became a NATO member, to strengthen the friendship between the two countries and the cultural ties amongst the Americans stationed in Izmir and the local Turks.

The TAA Language Courses is one of the first establishments in Izmir to teach English. It has been contributing to the modernization of Izmir since 1954 with its social, cultural and art programs.
